India’s exports of agricultural and processed food products rose by over 7 per cent year-on-year to $5.96 billion in the first quarter of 2025-26 (April–June), driven largely by robust shipments of rice, meat, and fruits and vegetables, the Financial Express reported.
Rice exports, including both basmati and non-basmati varieties, saw a 3.5 per cent rise to $2.9 billion.
In FY25, rice exports had hit a record $12.47 billion, up over 20 per cent from 2023-24.
India, which holds over 40 per cent share in the global rice market, has maintained its position as the top exporter of rice for more than a decade.
Meat, dairy, and poultry shipments grew over 17 per cent to $1.18 billion, while fruits and vegetables exports rose by 13 per cent to $0.95 billion.
Officials noted, as reported by Financial Express, that global demand for Indian buffalo meat is rising due to its quality and nutritional value.
India is now the world’s second-largest exporter of buffalo meat, with key markets in Vietnam, Malaysia, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Exports under the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) basket touched $25.14 billion in FY25, up over 12 per cent from FY24, contributing around 51 per cent of total agricultural exports.
The rest of the agricultural product exports include marine, tobacco, coffee, and tea.
