National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is set to visit Moscow this week for discussions focused on resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, NDTV reported citing sources.

This visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Ukraine, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

PM Modi had also engaged in a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin after his visit to Ukraine.

The Prime Minister had spoken to President Putin over the phone and stressed his commitment to work towards an end to the conflict.

This comes after Italian PM Giorgia Meloni on Saturday said that India and China can play a role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

In a meeting with the visiting Ukrainian President in norther Italy's Cerbobbio city, Meloni said, “I believe China and India have a role to play in resolving the conflict. The only thing that cannot happen is to think that the conflict can be solved by abandoning Ukraine. The choice of supporting Ukraine has been first and foremost a choice of national interest, and it’s a choice that won’t change".

Meloni’s remarks came a day after Russian President Putin also highlighted India’s role in solving the ongoing crisis in the region.

“We respect our friends and partners who I think are sincerely interested in addressing and resolving all the issues associated with the conflict (with Ukraine). China, Brazil, India… I am in contact with my partners and I have no doubt that the leaders of these countries, and we have the relations of trust and confidence with one another, will be really interested in providing a helping hand,” said Putin.
