Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday (11 April) laid the foundation stone for state’s first Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based semiconductor fabrication facility in New Raipur.

Aiming to manufacture 10 billion chips every year by 2030, the plant is scheduled to begin commercial production by April-May 2026.

“This isn’t just a plant, it’s the identity of the new Chhattisgarh,” the Chhattisgarh CM said, Indian Express reported.

Gallium Nitride is globally favoured over silicon in high-power, high-frequency electronics for its superior efficiency, thermal performance and durability.

The facility will hire primarily BE, BTech, diploma, polytechnic, and ITI holders for plant operations, according to a government official cited in the IE report.

In the first phase, around 500 direct jobs will be created. In future expansion of the second phase, it will create 5,000 direct jobs.

At the event, Eswara Rao Nandam, MD of Polymatech Electronics Ltd, also announced an additional investment of Rs 10,000 crore in Chhattisgarh.

“Developed by Polymatech Electronics Limited with an investment of Rs 1,143 crore, the state-of-the-art facility will produce high-frequency GaN chips catering to advanced 5G and 6G telecommunications infrastructure and marking a major milestone in India’s technological journey,” a government official was quoted as saying by IE.

The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities for local talent, while attracting FDI and boosting regional economic development, the official added.

According to the report, Polymatech Electronics Ltd will also handle the advanced packaging of these high-frequency chips at the Raipur facility, which will also serve as a hub for innovation in radio frequency systems, defence electronics, AI, data analytics, and high-performance computing.
