Dubai-based logistics operator DP World has launched a new rail-led multi-modal service, SARAL-3, enhancing connectivity between Gandhidham in Gujarat and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The service is part of DP World’s 'Sustainable, Assured, Reliable, and Agile Logistics' (SARAL) initiative, aimed at providing efficient and eco-friendly logistics solutions, as reported by PTI.

The newly introduced service includes a dedicated container train departing every weekend from Bhimasar, Gandhidham, with its first destination being Pali-Rewari in Haryana, reached within three days.

For extended connectivity, the service offers options to reach Panipat or Modinagar Inland Container Depot (ICD) within six days, the company stated.

Adhendru Jain, Vice President of Rail and Inland Terminals, DP World Subcontinent, emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainable logistics during the launch event.

“By integrating sustainability into every step of our operations and investing in future-ready infrastructure, we are empowering businesses to access newer markets in a rapidly evolving trade environment,” he said.

DP World operates an extensive network, comprising over 100 container rakes, Special Freight Train Operator (SFTO) rakes, and more than 16,000 containers and trailers for last-mile delivery.

In December 2024, the company commissioned a third rail line at its Pali-Rewari terminal, boosting the terminal's monthly freight handling capacity by 25 per cent.

This enhanced rail solution aligns with DP World’s sustainability goals by significantly reducing carbon emissions.

The company estimates that SARAL-3 can cut CO2 emissions by up to 70 per cent compared to traditional road-based freight transport, contributing to greener supply chain operations.

The SARAL-3 service marks the transition of logistics companies towards more reliable and environmentally friendly solutions.
