Iran responded to India's request on 16 June for the safe evacuation of its students from Iranian cities, stating that while its airspace remains closed, all land borders are open for their safe passage.

This development comes as Israel continues its bombing campaign against targets within the Islamic Republic, reported NDTV.

Iran's Foreign Minister gave the green light to India's diplomatic mission and extended help for the safe evacuation of diplomats and civilians. The minister stated, "Given the current condition and the closure of the country's airports, as well as the request of many political missions to transfer their diplomats and nationals abroad, we inform that all land borders are open for crossing."

Tehran has asked India to provide names, passport numbers, vehicle specifications, travel times, and desired border crossings to its General Protocol Department for all individuals seeking to exit the country. This information will facilitate necessary arrangements for the safe travel of diplomats and other citizens.

Thousands of Indians, including over 1,500 students, primarily from Jammu and Kashmir, are stranded across various Iranian cities as Israel and Iran continue to exchange missiles.

India's Foreign Ministry confirmed that "the Indian Embassy in Tehran is continuously monitoring the security situation and engaging Indian students in Iran to ensure their safety. In some cases, students are being relocated with the Embassy's facilitation to safer places within Iran. Other feasible options are also under examination."

The Embassy of India in Tehran has advised all Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin to remain vigilant, avoid all unnecessary movements, follow the embassy's social media accounts and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities.

It also urged them to fill out a Google form provided on its X (formerly Twitter) account and join a Telegram group for updates. "Please remember, it is important not to panic, exercise due caution and maintain contact with the Embassy of India in Tehran," the embassy posted.

The ongoing "Operation Rising Lion" began with a surprise Israeli attack on Friday 13 June, targeting Iran's military command and nuclear sites. Iran retaliated with air strikes, and both nations have launched hundreds of missiles at each other over the past four days.
