The Israeli military announced that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began Friday (10 October) at noon local time, with forces pulling back to agreed positions, reported Hindustan Times.

“The ceasefire agreement came into effect at 12:00,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on X.

“Since 12:00, IDF troops began positioning themselves along the updated deployment lines in preparation for the ceasefire agreement and the return of hostages. IDF troops in the Southern Command are deployed in the area and will continue to remove any immediate threat," the IDF added.

The Israeli Cabinet approved US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan hours earlier, including a hostage release and Palestinian prisoner exchange.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed 20 hostages in Gaza remain alive while 28 have died.

As the truce began, thousands of displaced Palestinians moved toward northern Gaza.

The Israeli military warned civilians to avoid northern areas such as Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahiya, and Shujaiya, plus zones with heavy troop presence. They restricted movement from south to north to Rashid and Salal al-Din routes.

Netanyahu stated, “Our hostages will all return in the coming days,” adding Israel “will expand the circle of peace” and hopes to “mark ‘day of joy’ from nightfall Monday if hostages return.”

Hamas leaders confirmed the war’s end and vowed to focus on Palestinian self-determination.
