Israel Strikes Houthi Targets In Yemen After Deadly Drone Attack On Tel Aviv

The Israeli Army has reported that it had targeted several Houthi locations in western Yemen following a deadly drone attack by the rebel group in Tel Aviv.

These strikes have marked the debut Israeli operations on Yemeni soil since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October, as per a report by The Hindu.

Meanwhile, Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam has condemned the strikes as "blatant Israeli aggression", claiming they targeted fuel storage and a power station, aiming to worsen Yemen's suffering, and pressure it to cease supporting Gaza.

Mohamed Ali al-Houthi of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council also warned of “impactful strikes” in retaliation.

The drone attack by Houthi rebels in Tel Aviv had claimed life of one person and injured at least 10 others near the US Embassy. Despite Israel's air defences detecting the drone, an interception error occurred.

Earlier, the US and British forces had targeted Yemen in response to Houthi attacks on international commercial shipping, many of which were not connected to Israel. Western intelligence and analysts have long accused Iran of supplying arms to the Houthis, a claim Iran denies.

The ongoing war in Gaza was triggered by Hamas’ 7 October attack on southern Israel, which resulted in over 38,900 deaths, causing a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The conflict has displaced most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents and led to widespread hunger. Hamas’ initial attack killed 1,200 people and militants took about 250 hostages, with around 120 still captive.
