The Security forces gunned down three terrorists in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday (2 November).

The Indian Army successfully neutralised two terrorists in the general area of Halkan Gali in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag in counter-terrorism operation.

Acting on specific intelligence, security forces had reportedly been tracking the terror group's activities for over a month.

The security forces saw suspicious movement on Saturday in general area Harkan Gali on Saturday and challenged the terrorists, who opened fire.

"Based on specific input, a Joint Operation was launched by Indian Army, J&K police and CRPF in general area Halkan Gali, Anantnag. On 02 Nov 2024, suspicious movement near Halkan Gali was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, as a result, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on own column. Own troops effectively retaliated, resulting in elimination of two terrorists," the Indian Army's Chinar Corps said in post on X.

These terrorists were reportedly responsible for multiple attacks, including the targeting of Rifleman Hilal Ahmad Bhat of 162 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) on 8 October and previous incidents in Halan, Bijbiara and Shangus.

In a separate encounter in Srinagar's Khanyar locality on Saturday, the security forces neutralised a high-ranking commander in Pakistan-backed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The LeT commander, identified as Usman, had been active in Kashmir valley for several years and was also involved in the killing of inspector Masroor Wani, NDTV reported citing a senior police officer.

Wani was shot dead from close range while he was playing cricket in Eidgah ground in October last year.

Usman's killing has reportedly dealt a major blow to the Lashkar-e-Taiba in Jammu and Kashmir as he was senior-most Pakistani LeT commander in the UT.
