R Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, predicted on Friday (10 May) that the Congress government in the state will collapse soon after the Lok Sabha election results are declared on 4 June.

According to Ashoka, internal dissent within the Congress party will be the main cause of the government's downfall.

"The government is all set to crumble... Many had claimed that it was impossible to bring down governments. But what happened with Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and also in Karnataka? We have proved that it is possible,” the BJP leader during a press conference in Bengaluru, The New Indian Express reported.

When questioned about the possibility of Congress MLAs being in contact with the BJP, Ashoka clarified that because they are in touch with them (BJP), he is predicting the fall of the Congress government

"I don’t deny that some of them are in touch with us. The countdown for the fall of the State Government has started," he said.

He alleged that Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president, D K Shivakumar, had said in Mandya that if the Congress could not win in the Lok Sabha polls, the government will collapse.

“CM Siddaramaiah’s son had also alleged that the BJP is offering Rs 30 crore to Rs 50 crore per MLA. They (Congress leaders) are only predicting the collapse of the government. Several Congress MLAs are fed up with the government as not even a single paise has been released for development,” Ashoka claimed.

Ashoka further alleged that people of Karnataka are “cursing” the Congress Government, as it has not taken up any development work since coming to power last year.

Other allegations levelled by Ashoka included the government's failure to disburse dues to milk producers and salaries for 108 ambulance drivers.

He also mentioned the poor quality of food preventing around 200,000 children from joining anganwadis.

He further alleged that the State Government has “not even released a single naya paisa” for drought relief.

“The grants from boards and corporations, including those meant for the welfare of SCs/STs, BCs, and Veerashaiva Lingayats have been withdrawn. How can this government serve the poor?” he alleged.
