The parents of the trainee doctor raped and murdered at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have accused the West Bengal Police of trying to cover up the case.

Joining the protest demanding justice for their daughter, the parents alleged that getting justice is not easy for them, instead, they have to snatch it.

They thanked the protesters for their 'help' which gave them the courage to continue the fight. The victim's mother also expressed that she shudders to think about the pain her daughter experienced before death.

"Whenever I think about the torment, the pain experienced by my daughter on that night, I shudder. She had dreams to serve the society, Now, all these protesters are all my children," she told PTI.

The mother went on to accuse the cops of not cooperating with the parents. They have been alleging that they were made to wait for three hours before they could see their daughter's dead body.

"We could have seen a glimpse of hope if they (police) had cooperated even a little. Even after such a crime, the police tried to cover it up. Evidence too has been tampered with," the mother alleged.

Earlier, they had alleged that the police attempted to offer them a bribe in an effort to suppress the case and tried to close the case without a thorough investigation.

The Kolkata Police has been facing harsh criticism over the handling of the case. Concerns have been raised over how the accused, Sanjoy Roy, was able to move freely throughout the hospital at all hours.
