To enhance infrastructure and facilities at the revered Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar temple ahead of the Kumbh Mela 2027 in Nashik, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the immediate commencement of the area’s development plan, valued at Rs 288.17 crore.
At a high-level meeting in Mumbai, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasised that a large number of devotees and tourists come to Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar, and stressed that development works must be completed before the start of the Kumbh Mela.
Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar and MLA Dilip Walse Patil were also present in the meeting, the official statement added.
A time-bound programme should be prepared for the implementation of the development plan, and work should be started after setting a time-bound programme, the Chief Minister instructed the officials.
Highlighting the region’s rich natural beauty, Fadnavis called for a comprehensive eco-tourism initiative, proposing forest trails, ropeway facilities, and improved hospitality infrastructure in Nigdale, including hotels and restaurants.
All facilities that are convenient for tourists, hotels, restaurants, as well as accommodation facilities for those who are interested, will be planned in Nigdale.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the need for better connectivity, suggesting the development of the Rajgurunagar-Talagh-Bhimashankar highway, helipad facilities, and an electricity substation to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.
Security measures are also on the agenda, with plans for an additional police post to handle the anticipated influx during the Kumbh Mela.
Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi presented detailed plans during the meeting, which was also attended by senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary of Finance OP Gupta, Planning Department’s Rajagopal Deora, and Principal Secretary Ashwini Bhide.
