A suicide attack in Pakistan’s North Waziristan district killed 13 Pak Army soldiers and injured 29 others, including civilians, news agency AFP reported.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing.

"A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy. The blast killed 13 soldiers, injured 10 army personnel and 19 civilians," a local government official was quoted as saying by AFP.

The explosion also caused structural damage to nearby homes.

"The explosion also caused the roofs of two houses to collapse, injuring six children," a police officer was quoted as saying by AFP.

An administrative official noted that the condition of four injured soldiers remains critical.

Emergency services have been deployed in the area.

The suicide bomber wing of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction of the Pakistani Taliban has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group has been active in the region and is known for targeting Pakistani security forces.

Pakistan has seen a resurgence of militant violence in its northwestern regions bordering Afghanistan since the Taliban regained power in Kabul in 2021.

Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of sheltering militants—a charge the Taliban denies.

Around 290 people—mostly security personnel—have been killed in attacks by armed groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since the beginning of the year.
