In a big connectivity boost to Gujarat, the state government has announced the development of two new expressways in the state.
During his budget speech on Thursday (20 February), Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai revealed plans for two new expressways to be developed by the state government.
The proposed expressways will be constructed along the Dwarka–Somnath and Deesa–Pipavav routes.
“For high-traffic roads, high-speed corridors, and expressways will be developed for which Rs 1,020 crore allocation has been proposed in this year’s budget," Desai was quoted as saying by DeshGujarat.
The minister further said that under the “Garvi Gujarat High-Speed Corridor” project, 12 new high-speed corridors spanning 1,367 km will be developed.
"Two new expressways are to be developed in the state, of which the Banaskantha–Saurashtra coastal connecting Deesa–Pipavav road shall be developed as the Namo Shakti Expressway. Another expressway will be developed as the Somnath–Dwarka Expressway, which shall be linked to the Ahmedabad–Rajkot–Porbandar," the minister added.
The minister also announced that, in collaboration with the central government, airport expansion projects are planned in Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, and Porbandar.
Additionally, Dahod is set to receive a new greenfield airport, aimed at enhancing air connectivity in the region.
