Manipur's Border Town Moreh Again Witnesses Militant Attack On Police Commandos, Five Including BSF Jawan Injured

On Tuesday (2 January) morning in Manipur's border town Moreh, at least four police commandos and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained injuries in a militant attack, a day after four men were killed and five others critically injured by gunfire in Thoubal district as reported by Hindustan Times.

The injured security personnel are currently undergoing treatment at the RIMS Hospital in Imphal, as confirmed by officials.

Earlier, late Saturday night (30 December), militants had launched an assault on Manipur Police commandos within their barracks, as per officials well-versed with the incident.

The attack, employing rocket-propelled grenades, caused damage to the barracks and inflicted minor injuries on four commandos.

This recent incident follows heightened tensions in Manipur, with the government imposing a curfew in response to the killing of four individuals and critical injuries to five others in Thoubal district.

Last year, the state witnessed significant ethnic violence, resulting in nearly 200 casualties.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in a video message, condemned the violence and urged residents, particularly those in Lilong, to maintain peace.

Assuring swift action, he stated that the police are actively working to apprehend the perpetrators, who will face legal consequences.
