Following the removal of her nephew, Akash Anand, from the position of national coordinator for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), party president Mayawati took further action on Monday (3 March) by expelling him from the party.
Mayawati responded following Akash's post on X on Monday, reacting to the measures implemented against him.
Akash posted on X in Hindi, “I am a cadre of Mayawati ji, and under her leadership, I have learnt unforgettable lessons of sacrifice, loyalty and dedication, all these are not just an idea for me, but the purpose of my life.
He emphasised that every choice made by Behan ji (Mayawati) was as if set in stone for him, and he held immense respect and unwavering support for every decision she took.
“The decision to remove me from all party posts is emotional for myself, but it is a big challenge now; the test is difficult, and there’s a long battle,” the nephew was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
Identifying himself as a dedicated member of the Bahujan mission and movement, Akash asserted that perseverance and resolve are the genuine allies of a person during challenging periods. He further pledged to persist in serving the party and mission with unwavering dedication, and to advocate for his community's rights until his final breath.
Hitting out at political rivals, Akash said, “Some people from the rival party are thinking that my political career is over with his decision of the party. They should understand that the Bahujan movement is not a career, but a fight for self-respect and self-esteem of crores of Dalits, oppressed, deprived and poor people.”
“This is an idea, a movement, which cannot be suppressed. Lakhs of Akash Anand are always ready to keep this torch burning and sacrifice everything for it,” he was quoted as saying by IE.
Five hours following Akash's social media post, Mayawati used the same platform to declare his dismissal from the party. She stated that Akash had been stripped of his party positions due to his continuous influence from his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, who had previously been expelled from the party. She further noted that Akash was expected to demonstrate maturity through remorse.
However, she believed that the lengthy response given by Akash is "not a sign of his remorse and political maturity, but is mostly selfish, arrogant and non-missionary under the influence of his father-in-law."
"I have been advising all such people in the party to avoid such acts and also punishing them. Therefore, in the interest of the self-respect and self-esteem movement of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and following the tradition of the discipline of the venerable Shri Kanshiram ji, Akash Anand, like his father-in-law, is being expelled from the party in the interest of the party and the movement,” Mayawati said.
