'Modi Is Terrorist, Hindustan Murdabad' Graffiti: After Canada, BAPS Swaminarayan Temple Vandalised In New York

India's Consulate General in New York has called the vandalism of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Melville "unacceptable" and raised the matter with the US authorities.

The Consulate General is also in touch with the Hindu community there and has urged the US law enforcement authorities to take 'prompt action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.'

The Hindu American Foundation has urged the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security to initiate an investigation into the vandalism of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in New York.

BAPS Public Affairs said, "Deeply saddened by the desecration of our BAPS Mandir in Melville, NY, an act aimed at inciting hatred against Hindus."

"Today, local, state and federal leaders gathered to promote peace, respect and unity. Guided by our faith, we stand united against hate with compassion and solidarity," it added.

Congress members Tom Suozzi and Nick LaLota joined the event, while another Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick called this an attack on fundamental values.

After vandalism, slogans like 'Modi is terrorist' and 'Hindustan Murdabad,' were seen written on the signboard of the temple.

In a similar incident earlier in July, the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Edmonton, Canada, was defaced with anti-India graffiti and slurs.

The graffiti called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian MP of Indian origin Chandra Arya "Hindu terrorists" and "anti-Canada."

The Consulate General of India in Vancouver had then requested the Canadian authorities to investigate the incident and take prompt action against the perpetrators.
