Three new Dr Ambedkar Chairs, aimed at promoting research and education on social justice and equality, will be set up in three Universities across India.
The MoU Signing Ceremony for the establishment of three new Dr Ambedkar Chairs in Mumbai University, Jaipur National University and GB Pant University of Technical and Agriculture was organised by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation on Wednesday (15 October) at Dr Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC) in New Delhi, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said in a statement.
Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar, who presided over the event, appreciated the continuous efforts of Dr Ambedkar Foundation in spreading the ideology and vision of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar through academic and research initiatives.
He emphasised that education, social awareness, and institutional collaboration are the most powerful means to build an equitable and inclusive society as envisioned by Dr Ambedkar.
He also expressed confidence that the newly established Chairs would contribute meaningfully to policy-oriented research, public awareness, and academic discourse on issues relating to social justice, equality, empowerment of marginalised communities, and constitutional values.
Secretary Amit Yadav highlighted the growing relevance of Ambedkarite thought to modern social and legal challenges and praised universities for fostering multidisciplinary engagement.
With these additions, the total number of Dr Ambedkar Chairs under the scheme will rise to 28 across India.
Vice Chancellors of the participating universities expressed their commitment to advancing policy-oriented research and outreach activities aligned with Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals.
