In a symbolic gesture marking the 300th birth anniversary year of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet convened a special meeting at the historic Rajwada Palace in Indore on Tuesday (20 May).
Chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the session led to a series of significant project approvals across social welfare, urban planning, healthcare, and spiritual tourism, ANI reported.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya announced the launch of the ‘Rahveer’ scheme, which incentivises good Samaritans with Rs 25,000 for helping road accident victims reach a hospital or primary health centre.
“The person will have to immediately inform 108 ambulance service, and the police will not harass them. This scheme will play an important role in saving lives,” he stated.
In a major urban reform, Metropolitan Development Authorities were approved for Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur, with CM Yadav set to chair each.
“These authorities will ensure systematic urban development with a focus on future needs,” said Vijayvargiya, assuring that municipal corporation functions will remain unaffected.
To support women in industrial zones, the Cabinet sanctioned working women's hostels to be developed under the PPP model and CSR funding.
A Rs 100 crore programme was also approved to promote Maheshwari saree craftsmanship, continuing Devi Ahilyabai’s legacy of skill-based employment.
A Rs 2,100 crore initiative centred around Adi Shankaracharya’s statue in Omkareshwar was greenlit to promote Sanatan traditions, including the creation of hostels and a spiritual research centre.
For healthcare, Rs 773 crore was approved to modernise Indore’s MY Hospital and Rs 321 crore for Rewa’s district hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bhopal on 31 May to inaugurate metro services in Bhopal and Indore, and airports in Datia and Satna.
