With over 95% of the land acquisition completed in the state, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) on Tuesday (Nov 15) invited bids for the largest civil work package of the 508-km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) in Maharashtra.
Package C3, the longest of 3 civil packages within Maharashtra and the final package of the entire project that had to be bid out, involves the construction of 135.45 km of elevated lines in the state connecting Shilphata to Zaroli and three elevated stations at Thane, Virar and Boisar.
Bids for two other packages in Maharashtra- design and construction of a 1.028 km underground station at Bandra Kurla Complex(BKC) in Mumbai and a 20.37 km underground tunnel between BKC Station to Shilphata, have already been invited.
Land acquisition for the bullet train project in the state has gained momentum in Maharashtra with the advent of the Eknath Shinde-led coalition government, with nearly all of the land required for the project now being acquired.
According to the progress report on the bullet train project released by the Ministry of Railways in the last week of October, 95.45 per cent of the required land has been acquired in Maharashtra. This was at a mere 75.25 per cent in August.
The largest stretch of the corridor — 348 km — is in Gujarat, while 156 km falls in Maharashtra and 4 km in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. 98.87 per cent of the required land has been acquired in Gujarat, while in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, 100 per cent of the required land has been acquired.
The MAHSR is being developed NHSRCl, a special purpose vehicle set up to implement the project, with financial and technical assistance from the Government of Japan at a total cost of Rs 1,08,000 crore.
Once completed, it is estimated that the distance between the two cities will be covered in 2 hours and seven minutes, given the line’s rolling stock will comprise Shinkansen E5 trains which are capable of running at a maximum speed of 350 kmph with operational speeds of 320 kmph.
All MAHSR project packages in Gujarat have been awarded, and work is progressing rapidly.
Engineering behemoth Larsen & Toubro is implementing three key packages in Gujarat - 237.1 km elevated line between Zaroli Village in the Maharashtra-Gujarat border to Vadodara, a 8.1 km elevated viaduct and station within Vadodara and an 87.5 km elevated viaduct between Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
Completed works in Gujarat include 188.28 Km pile work, 96.32 km of pier work, and 7.84 km of girders have been launched.
