The Navi Mumbai International Airport set to commence operations in the April-June quarter of 2025, according to Adani Enterprises Ltd. (AEL) Chief Financial Officer Robbie Singh.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport, spanning an area of 1,160 acres. The airport project comes with a total estimated cost of Rs 16,700 crore. It will be equipped with two runways positioned 1.55 kilometres apart from each other.

This timeline marks a shift from the previously scheduled opening in December 2024, which was later revised to the March quarter of 2025.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport, which will have an initial capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually, is being developed as part of a broader strategy to address Mumbai’s growing air traffic.

Together with the Mumbai International Airport, it will form a dual-airport system, with shared resources and complementary operations.

Currently, Mumbai Airport which has two runways, can operate only one at a time. The Navi Mumbai Airport, when fully completed, will feature two operational runways and four passenger terminals, starting with one terminal in its first phase.

In October, the airport marked a milestone when a turboprop transport aircraft from the Indian Air Force successfully landed on its southern runway. This is part of ongoing readiness tests ahead of the airport’s phased operational launch, reports Times Of India.

The Adani Group, which owns both airports through its subsidiary Adani Airport Holdings, plans to integrate their operations. “Mumbai and Navi Mumbai International Airports will be managed as one airport with two runways and three terminals upon completion of Phase I,” as per statement from the company.

The first and second phases will feature one runway, one terminal building, and a passenger capacity of 20 million. The subsequent phases 3, 4, and 5 will introduce a second runway, four additional terminals, and an increased passenger capacity of 90 million.
