State-run NLC India Ltd plans to invest Rs 1.25 lakh crore by 2030 to expand its capacity from 6.7 gigawatt to 20 gigawatt, reported NDTV.

According to Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company, out of Rs 1.25 lakh crore planned capex, the company will spend around Rs 65,000 crore to renewables and green initiatives, Rs 45,000 crore to thermal, and about Rs 15,000 crore to mining.

“We are having an aggressive capacity addition plan, adding the renewable capacity as well as the conventional capacity to take the capacity from the existing 6.7 gigawatt to 20 gigawatt. For that, the Capex requirement is around 1.25 lakh crore by 2030," Motupalli was quoted as saying by PTI.

The official elaborated that around Rs 15,000 crore from the renewables capex will go to battery storage systems.

NLCIL is arranging funds for the planned capex through internal accruals, domestic loans, IPOs, and External Commercial Borrowings.

The company is also looking to launch a consulting business abroad in Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Africa, and the Middle East.

It aims to acquire battery mineral assets overseas—especially Vanadium, Cobalt, Lithium, and Copper.

Recently, NLC secured two critical mineral blocks in Chhattisgarh and is exploring similar opportunities abroad.

The official added they are conducting due diligence for lithium mines in Mali, and copper and cobalt mines in Congo.

NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), its wholly owned subsidiary, plans an IPO this financial year to enable value unlocking in the renewable business for its parent company.

NLC has received in-principle approval to invest up to Rs 3,720 crore in NIRL, subject to necessary approvals and compliance with guidelines.
