The parents of the 31-year-old trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, have expressed their distrust over West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"Early on I had full faith in her (Banerjee), but now no. She is asking for justice but what is she saying that for? She can take charge of that, she is doing nothing," the victim's father told NDTV referring to lapses in the investigation.

"They are saying 'We want justice'. But those of the general public who are saying the same thing, they are trying to lock them up," he said in the backdrop of action being taken by the state police against protesters.

The victim's mother called the schemes run by Mamata Banerjee "pseudo" referring to the Kanyashree and the Lakshmi schemes and said, "Before availing these schemes kindly see if your Lakshmi at home safe."

The victim's parents also thanked people for coming out to protest for their daughter and requested to continue until the accused was caught.

An accused named Sanjay Roy has been arrested, but there are suspicions of gang rape, as the parents believe such brutality could not have been committed by a single person.

"I am sure more people in the hospital are involved. I think the chief minister is trying to stop the protests. That’s why police enforced prohibitory orders today to stop the assembly of protestors," the mother said.
