In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have eliminated 75 terrorists so far this year, with nearly 60 per cent of them being Pakistani nationals, India Today reported citing Army officials.

This translates to Indian security forces neutralising a terrorist every five days.

Among the 75 terrorists killed, the majority were foreigners, including 17 eliminated during infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), and 26 killed in encounters in interior areas.

According to the India Today report, available data reveals that the 42 non-local terrorists killed were in five districts of the Jammu region—Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, and Rajouri.

In the Kashmir Valley, security forces neutralised foreign terrorists in districts such as Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Kulgam.

Baramulla emerged as a hotspot for foreign terrorist activity, recording 14 non-local casualties across nine encounters.

Most of these terrorists were neutralised in Sabura Nala area of the Uri sector, Main Uri sector, Kamalkot Uri along the LoC, and in the hinterland areas of Chak Tappar Kriri, Nowpora, Hadipora, Sagipora, Watergam, and Rajpore in Sopore.

The numbers reportedly indicate a significant decline in the presence of local terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir, leaving mainly Pakistani terrorists active in the region.

"The local terrorist group has almost been wiped out," an official was quoted as saying by India Today.

In 2024, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 60 terror-related incidents, resulting in the deaths of 122 people, including 32 civilians and 26 security forces personnel.
