Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday (20 June) that Pakistan was compelled to kneel down after India’s decisive retaliation to the Pahalgam terror strike, cautioning that any further provocation by Islamabad would come at a steep price.

Addressing troops at the Northern Command in Udhampur, Singh asserted that Operation Sindoor was merely on hold and that Pakistan’s long-standing strategy to bleed India through terror would not succeed.

"We not only foiled their plans but also took such retaliatory action that Pakistan had to kneel down. Any terrorist attack on Indian soil is going to cost Pakistan very dearly," the Defence Minister said, India Today reported.

In response to Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May, with Indian forces neutralising nine terror hubs and striking 11 key Pakistani military positions.

Pakistan reportedly lost dozens of troops before calling for a ceasefire on 10 May.

Singh reaffirmed India’s uncompromising stance against terrorism, vowing that New Delhi would respond with strength and strategy in response to acts of terror.

"Operation Sindoor sent a powerful message to terrorists and their patrons that New India is assertive, resolute and will no longer be a victim of terrorism, but respond with strength and strategy," said the Defence Minister.

Praising the coordination and grit of India’s forces and intelligence units, Singh credited their heroism for reshaping India’s counter-terrorism doctrine and razing terror bases in Pakistan and PoK.

He said Operation Sindoor wasn’t merely a military action but a warning to terrorists across the border and their backers that any harm to India’s unity or integrity would trigger a befitting response.

"Operation Sindoor is not over yet. This is just a pause. I want to tell this to my neighbouring country," he added.
