Two young men tragically lost their lives after a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by a 17-and-a-half-year-old boy from a prominent Pune realtor's family, collided with their motorcycle.

This incident took place in the Yerwada area of Pune early on Sunday (19 May) morning. The Pune police detained the boy following the incident.

The victims, identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old software engineers from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune, were hit by the Porsche at the Kalyani Nagar junction. Awadhiya's friend Akib Mulla lodged the first information report (FIR) regarding the accident.

The investigation revealed that the accused, who recently cleared his Class 12 board examination, had gone to a bar and a pub in the Mundhwa area for a party with friends, where he is suspected to have consumed alcohol before driving home.

The accused was presented before the holiday court in Pune on Sunday afternoon, where the police sought custody and permission to try him as an adult. However, the court denied these requests and granted bail to the accused, with certain conditions.

The court instructed the accused to work with the traffic police of Yerwada for 15 days, write an essay on the accident, undergo treatment to quit drinking, and receive psychiatric counseling. The accused's lawyer expressed confidence in the investigation and stated that they would cooperate fully with the police agencies.

The judgement granting bail invited a fury of outrage and criticism over social media with many netizens scathingly critiquing the judgement and demanding judicial reforms.

One user wrote on X, "Bail granted to Pune builder’s underage son Vedant Agarwal after his speeding Porsche kills a young couple. Bail granted in hours — one of the bail conditions reportedly is he has to write a 300 word essay. And the judiciary wants respect!"

Another user fumed, stating, "Pune accident: 17-year-old son of builder rams Porsche into bike, kills 2 - India Today am utterly disappointed & disgusted that this rich killer brat got bail. Absolutely rotten decision by the judge."
