The US Embassy in India has issued a public advisory cautioning Indian travellers not to overstay their visas, warning that violators risk deportation and could be permanently barred from entering the United States again.
“If you remain in the United States beyond your authorized period of stay, you could be deported and could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States in the future,” US Embassy in India said on Saturday (17 May).
Meanwhile, a federal appeals court on Friday declined to permit the Trump administration to resume the practice of deporting migrants to countries other than their own without prior notice or the opportunity to seek protection from persecution or torture.
The US First Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's injunction against the policy, amid growing alarm over the US government’s reported plans to deport migrants to countries like Libya, where human rights abuses and civil instability are widespread.
In April, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a reminder to all foreign nationals who had stayed over 30 days in the US to register under the Alien Registration Act.
US President Donald Trump has continued the process of deporting immigrants in the United States after assuming office for a second term.
The administration's policy has been characterised as a mass deportation campaign, affecting millions of immigrants and asylum seekers through widespread detentions, confinements, and expulsions.
