The Department of Personnel and Training announced on Friday notified the appointment of Parameswaran Iyer as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. Iyer has been appointed for a term of two years.
Iyer will succeed current CEO Amitabh Kant whose tenure ends on June 30, 2022.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Parameswaran Iyer, lAS (UP:81), Retd. as Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog vice Shri Amitabh Kant upon completion of his tenure on 30.06.2022, for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, on the same terms and conditions as were applicable in respect of Shri Amitabh Kant," read the official notification from the government.
Iyer, a 1981-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS, served as secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation till July 2020.
Iyer was handpicked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to drive his flagship Swachch Bharat Mission.
After taking voluntary retirement from the IAS in 2009, Iyer had a stint with the World Bank as water and sanitation specialist.
In 2016, he was approached by the NDA government to take charge as the top gun at the drinking and sanitation department.
