The Patna Metro project achieved an important milestone on Tuesday (16 September) with a comprehensive inspection by Metro Rail Safety Commissioner (CMRS) Janak Kumar Garg, signalling its steady progress towards becoming operational.
The review covered the Metro Depot, rolling stock and three major stations along the Priority Corridor.
As part of the exercise, trains were run at 40 kmph to assess technical parameters, stability and safety standards.
The CMRS underlined that “public safety is the topmost priority” and directed all stakeholders to ensure complete compliance with operational and security protocols before the launch of passenger services.
A high-level review meeting followed the inspection, attended by Urban Development and Housing Department Secretary and Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) Managing Director Abhay Kumar Singh, Additional Managing Director Abhilasha Sharma, and senior officials from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and PMRCL.
The deliberations focused on safety, operations, maintenance and emergency response measures.
During the inspection, passenger-centric features such as ticket counters, escalators, lifts and platform arrangements were scrutinised.
Emergency exits, fire-fighting systems and depot maintenance facilities were also checked to ensure the network meets global safety benchmarks.
Officials stressed the need for seamless coordination across planning, construction, operation and maintenance phases to uphold high safety standards.
The state-of-the-art stations and depot facilities on the Priority Corridor are designed to provide commuters with a modern, reliable and comfortable transit experience.
Construction on both Corridor 1 and Corridor 2 is progressing rapidly, with this week’s inspection marking a major step towards the commencement of operations.
