Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, is set to visit Brussels, Belgium, on 27–28 October 2025 for high-level discussions with Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice-President and European Commissioner for Trade of the European Union.
The visit comes at a decisive stage in the ongoing India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, as both sides seek to accelerate efforts towards concluding a comprehensive and balanced pact.
The dialogue follows the 14th round of FTA negotiations held earlier this month and is expected to lend strategic direction and political momentum to the talks.
Minister Goyal and Commissioner Šefčovič will deliberate on several critical aspects of the proposed agreement, including market access, regulatory cooperation and non-tariff measures.
The discussions will also take stock of progress achieved so far and pinpoint areas that need further alignment before a final agreement is reached.
During his visit, Minister Goyal will hold a bilateral meeting with Commissioner Šefčovič, followed by a working dinner.
The European Union has urged India to reduce import duties on automobiles and alcoholic beverages, while New Delhi, in turn, is pressing the bloc to grant it the status of a data-secure nation.
India has also requested more flexible provisions to allow temporary movement of its skilled professionals to the EU.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade is scheduled to visit India from 27 to 29 October.
The team, led by Cristina Maestre, the committee’s standing rapporteur for India, and Brando Benifei, will hold discussions on enhancing trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two partners.
