PM Modi To Launch Kolkata Metro Projects And Road Infrastructure In Bengal Tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bengal on Friday (22 August) to inaugurate three metro rail projects and lay the foundation for major road infrastructure worth over Rs 1,200 crore.

He will also address a public gathering at Dum Dum during the visit.

In Kolkata, he will visit Jessore Road Metro Station to flag off the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar metro service, which will improve airport connectivity.

He will also launch metro operations on the Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing) corridors, aimed at easing travel across central and IT hub areas of the city.

Modi is also expected to take a ride on the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar stretch.

In addition, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a new subway at Howrah Metro Station, designed to facilitate smoother passenger movement.

Alongside metro projects, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a 7.2 km six-lane elevated Kona Expressway project, valued at more than Rs 1,200 crore.

The expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Howrah, Kolkata, and nearby regions, boosting trade, tourism, and overall regional development.

These new metro corridors will link key parts of Kolkata, cut down travel time significantly, and improve integration with other transport modes, offering smoother journeys for lakhs of daily passengers.

Before arriving in Kolkata, the Prime Minister will inaugurate development projects in Gaya, Bihar.

His schedule also includes flagging off two trains and addressing the public. Later, he will inaugurate the Aunta–Simaria bridge project over the Ganga in Bihar.
