A massive fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday (19 January) evening, causing widespread panic in the holy city.

Fire tenders were promptly dispatched to the site.

Police, fire personnel, and local authorities have launched coordinated efforts to bring the fire under control.

Initial reports indicate that the fire broke out at a campsite and rapidly spread to engulf multiple tents in the vicinity.

The fire broke out in Sector 19 of Mahakumbh tent city.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has joined fire officials on-site to aid in extinguishing the flames.

A video, recorded by a train passenger crossing a nearby bridge, showed huge flames consuming the campsite, leaving many tents completely destroyed.

According to Hindi daily Dainik Bhashkar, over 50 tents have been burnt in the fire so far.

No casualties have been reported so far in the incident.

Fire trucks already parked at the venue as part of the safety arrangement at the massive Maha Kumbh rushed to the affected area and doused the blaze, the officials said.
