The funeral of Habib Tahir, one of the terrorists involved in the 22 April Pahalgam attack, turned tense in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), exposing Pakistan’s ongoing links to cross-border terrorism, reported NDTV.
Indian security forces had gunned down Tahir in an encounter on 28 July during Operation Mahadev in Srinagar’s Harwan area.
Tahir was reportedly recruited and trained by Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the LeT, had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack and was recently designated as a terrorist organisation by the United States for its role.
On 30 July, residents in Kuiyaan village in PoK reportedly gathered for Tahir’s final prayers.
However, chaos erupted when LeT commander Rizwan Hanif arrived with armed men, despite the family barring the terror group’s presence.
A confrontation began after Hanif’s nephew allegedly threatened mourners with a gun, triggering outrage.
Hanif and his associates were eventually forced to leave the spot.
In May, India named Pakistani officials who attended the funeral of LeT terrorists killed in Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam massacre.
Abdul Rauf, a US-designated global terrorist, reportedly led the funeral in Muridke—LeT’s stronghold often dubbed Pakistan’s “terror nursery.”
