Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (29 July) during a debate on Operation Sindoor. She accused the government of ignoring critical questions about the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack.
Taking the floor, she said, “We discussed all the logistics of Operation Sindoor on Monday during the Parliament session, but forgot to discuss the most important thing – how did the Pahalgam attack happen?”.
Gandhi highlighted that political leaders delved into operational details—strike timings, diplomatic pressure, and coordination—yet evaded responsibility for the intelligence failure that let terrorists strike in Kashmir. She challenged why the inquiry into the Pahalgam attack itself was missing from the discussion.
Gandhi urged the government to account for security lapses rather than offering technical briefings on the succeeding military response. She sharply rebuked the administration’s posture that attempted to paint Operation Sindoor as a flawless success without introspection.
The Wayanad MP questioned why the narrative lacked focus on preventing such attacks in the future, especially when tourism, local safety, and Kashmir’s stability were at stake. She underscored that focusing on mechanics without accountability breeds complacency.
Claiming that in just the last five years, Kashmir alone saw 25 attacks, Gandhi sought the government's answer for "escalating violence under its watch." She further charged that the current administration left tourist safety "to God" rather than ensuring proactive protection.
