As Pune braces for the monsoon, Maha Metro is expediting critical infrastructure works at Khadki station, Swargate Chowk, and the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden cable-stayed foot-over-bridge, reported Times of India.

With just under a month remaining before heavy rains arrive, Maha Metro is keen to complete these projects to reduce road congestion and improve pedestrian access.

Barricades placed around the sites will be removed once construction is complete, officials confirmed, enabling smoother vehicular and foot traffic.

Among the top priorities is the underpass at Swargate Chowk, which will link the Swargate Metro station with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus terminus across the junction.

Currently, parts of the main road and MSRTC space are blocked due to ongoing work.

Officials stated that tunnelling for the underpass is complete, and construction is now focused on the entry and exit points. One access point will open on the Satara Road-facing side of the MSRTC terminus.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has urged Maha Metro to complete the Swargate works before the onset of monsoon. PMC officials have also planned inspections to monitor progress and ensure timely delivery.

Meanwhile, works at Khadki station and the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden station’s foot-over-bridge have also been fast-tracked.

Once operational, the bridge is expected to ease pedestrian flow and road congestion in the busy central area.
