In a bid to tackle persistent traffic congestion in Chakan’s industrial belt, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has unveiled a Rs 558.12 crore road development plan, prioritising 40.74 km of critical roadwork across the region.
Under Chief Minister's special fund, six vital projects spanning 17.69 km and costing Rs 196.50 crore are undergoing detailed technical evaluations.
Additionally, technical are progressing for projects sanctioned under the , encompassing 17.69 km of roadways worth Rs 196.50 crore.
Key stretches include Dhamane Phata–Koye (Rs 8 crore), Kohinde Phata–Kadus (Rs 20 crore), Kadus Gavthan–Kivale (Rs 20 crore), Bhose–Vadgaon Ghenand (Rs 5 crore), Kivale–Ambethan (Rs 3.5 crore), and Dehu–Yelwadi (Rs 104 crore).
In addition, PMRDA has floated tenders worth Rs 100.14 crore for 17.70 km of roadwork along important corridors, including Chikhali–Moi, Kuruli Phata–Nighoje, Alandi Phata–Alandi Road, Chauli–Alandi Markal Road, Nighoje–Chakan MIDC, and Khalumbre–MIDC Phase II.
Land acquisition proceedings are currently underway for four critical arterial routes spanning 5.35 km, collectively valued at Rs 269.48 crore.
The most significant amongst these is the 30 metre wide Talegao-Chakana Highway, which will connect industrial settlements including the Volkswagen facility to Kharabwadi. This 900 metre stretch alone carries an estimated cost of Rs 24.65 crore.
The Western Bypass project, linking NH 60 near Chakana MIDC Stage-5 to the old Mumbai-Pune highway via Talegao MIDC, represents another vital artery where the acquisition process is underway.
Meanwhile, tenders worth Rs 100.14 crore were published on 8 October 2025 for seven road expansion projects covering 17.70 km across Khed Taluka.
These include key routes connecting Chikhali to Moai, the Pune-Nashik road realignment near Aalandi, and improved connectivity to Chakana MIDC.
PMRDA highlighted ongoing efforts to remove encroachments, noting that so far, 347 unauthorized constructions and 81 hoardings have been removed, resulting in the elimination of a total of 428 encroachments, to accelerate project execution.
Fed up by the long-standing congestion and project delays, industrialists and local residents have planned a march from Chakan to the PMRDA office in Akurdi on 9 October to demand faster action on infrastructure delivery.
