The Pune police are considering booking the father of a minor involved in a Porsche crash for allegedly destroying evidence.
According to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the father attempted to present the vehicle as being driven by an adult instead of his son.
Speaking to reporters, Commissioner Kumar confirmed that evidence collected by the investigation team indicates the minor, son of a prominent realtor, was driving the Porsche when it struck two IT engineers at Kalyani Nagar junction around 2.30 am on Sunday.
The probe revealed four individuals, including the minor, were in the Porsche Taycan at the time of the accident.
“The probe by the Pune city police has revealed that after the accident, the father of the minor boy attempted to show that the driver of the Porsche car was not his minor son, but an adult. We have recorded the statement of the person employed by the family for driving the Porsche car. The statement of this driver is important,” said Kuma, Indian Express reported.
“We have checked records at the security cabin of the minor’s residence and CCTV that shows he had taken the car while leaving the house. Also, the statements of the eye-witnesses corroborate this technical evidence,” he added.
The minor's father is set to appear in court as his three-day police custody period is set to expire.
The police plan to request an extension of his custody.
Commissioner Kumar reiterated that the minor did not commit the offence under the influence of alcohol but “was in full senses”.
He said the blood report does not matter and they think the minor knew that his act of consuming liquor and then driving a car at high speed in a narrow lane could kill people.
The minor was taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical examination, where blood samples were collected.
Due to a delay in sample collection, another blood sample was taken for DNA analysis to prevent tampering.
The police also have evidence that the minor consumed alcohol, including CCTV footage and bills from two restaurants where he was allegedly drinking with friends before the accident.
