Congress on Monday (17 June) said that Rahul Gandhi has decided to the give up the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala in favour of the family bastion of Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will make her electoral debut from the Constituency her brother is vacating.
Announcing the decisions after a high-level Congress meeting, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, accompanied by Rahul and Priyanka, said the call on which constituency to vacate was taken now as the last day for doing so is Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Rahul said, "I have an emotional relationship with Raebareli and the people of Wayanad. In the last 5 years, the people of Wayanad stood with me and gave me energy to fight in a very difficult time.
"I will stand by the commitments that we've made. We will deliver on those commitments. I'm confident that Priyanka is going to win the elections and will be a very good representative for the people of Wayanad. My doors are always open for the people of Wayanad for the rest of my life and I love every single person in Wayanad," he added.
Addressing the mediapersons, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "I'm very happy to be able to represent Wayanad. I won't let the people of Wayanad feel Rahul ji's absence. I will try my best to be a good representative".
