Rajasthan Budget Allocates Rs 60,000 Crore For Expressways, Rs 400 Crore For Water Supply; 1.25 Lakh Government Jobs Promised

Rajasthan's Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari presented the state Budget for 2025-26 on Wednesday (19 January), outlining ambitious plans for employment generation, infrastructure development, and water supply projects, as reported by The Indian Express.

The Budget includes the construction of nine greenfield expressways, recruitment for 1.25 lakh government posts, and greater spending on road construction and public utilities.

Key Announcements in the Budget

In her speech, Diya Kumari, who also holds the finance portfolio, emphasised that the state’s GDP is projected to exceed Rs 19.89 lakh crore in 2025-26 under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. 

She reaffirmed the government's commitment to creating a $350 billion economy by 2030 and noted a 40 per cent increase in capital expenditure within a short span.

The Budget also highlights significant infrastructure development, including:

  • Construction of nine greenfield expressways at a cost of Rs 60,000 crore.

  • Development of 9,600 km of new roads and the upgradation of 13,000 km of existing roads.

  • Provision of drinking water connections to 2 lakh households, with Rs 400 crore allocated for this initiative.

Government’s Progress and Implementation of Promises

Diya Kumari stated that the state government has successfully delivered 58 per cent of its election manifesto promises and fulfilled 73 per cent of the previous Budget announcements.

“Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government has proved the trust expressed by the public was right by setting new records of development in the state in the first year of its tenure itself," she remarked, quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Opposition’s Demands and Assembly Proceedings

The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly’s Budget session commenced on 31 January, with an address by Governor Haribhau Bagde. Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani announced that the government would respond to issues raised by the Opposition after the Zero Hour on 20 February.
