A tragic incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on Friday morning (25 July) when the roof of a government school building collapsed, claiming the lives of at least seven children and leaving two others in critical condition, NDTV reported.

The collapse occurred around 8.30 am at Piplodi Government School in Manohar Thana, where around over 30 students and several staff members were present.

The school building, which housed classes up to the 8th standard, had reportedly been in a deteriorating state, with previous complaints raised about its condition.

Persistent rainfall over the past few days is believed to have weakened the structure, leading to the sudden collapse.

All the victims were between the ages of eight and eleven.

Rescue efforts were launched with local residents, school staff, and emergency responders working together to free those trapped under the debris.

The injured children were initially taken to Manohar Thana Hospital, and those requiring advanced care were referred to a hospital in Jhalawar.

The incident has sparked shock and grief across the region.

Authorities have pledged assistance to the affected families and have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.

The education department has also been directed to assess the structural safety of other school buildings in the area to prevent similar tragedies.
