Mumbai airport authorities arrested a woman on 14 July arriving from Doha for smuggling cocaine worth Rs 62.6 crore, reported Hindustan Times.
Acting on a specific intelligence tip, officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted the Indian national as she attempted to exit the airport.
During inspection, officials discovered six large Oreo biscuit boxes and three chocolate boxes in her baggage. When they opened the packages, they found a total of 300 capsules filled with a white powdery substance. DRI confirmed, all capsules were individually tested using the field test kit, which showed positive result for cocaine.
The total recovered narcotic weighed 6,261 grams and is estimated to be worth Rs 62.6 crore in the illegal market. The woman has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
This is the third such drug trafficking case in less than a month intercepted by DRI Mumbai.
On 22 June, DRI officials arrested a male passenger who flew in from Sierra Leone after discovering he had ingested capsules filled with cocaine.
The passenger admitted to having ingested capsules containing narcotic drugs for smuggling into India, DRI said. He was immediately admitted to a government hospital, and 1,139 grams of cocaine, worth Rs 11.39 crore, were recovered.
Earlier on 20 June, DRI tracked a Nigerian woman traveling from Delhi to Mumbai by bus. After a 50-kilometre night-long surveillance operation, officers intercepted her and found narcotic substances hidden in her baggage.
