Russia has proposed joint production of the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet with India, along with the supply of assembled aircraft and assistance in developing an indigenous fifth-generation fighter, Sputnik India reported.
Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport's Director General Alexander Mikheev stated that India has been offered a comprehensive partnership under the Su-57E project, which includes local manufacturing capabilities.
"Our proposals include the supply of assembled aircraft, the organisation of their joint production in India, and assistance in developing an Indian fifth-generation fighter," Mikheev was quoted as saying by Sputnik India.
The offer comes as Russia steps up efforts to promote the Su-57 for export, with state-owned defence corporation Rostec claiming increasing global demand for the aircraft.
The aircraft is set to be showcased at the Aero India 2025, scheduled from 10-14 February at the Yelahanka Air Force Base in Bengaluru.
"The Su-57 is an advanced fifth-generation aircraft … We expect great interest in the fighter at the air show in Bengaluru. Along with improving the aircraft and promoting it to new markets, UAC [United Aircraft Corporation] specialists are working to expand production capacity to meet the growing demand for this fighter," Rostec said in a statement.
The Su-57 is the only fifth-generation fighter in the world that has proven its effectiveness in countering Western air defence systems in real combat conditions, the company added.
