In preparation for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) has begun its groundwork, focusing on 108 Assembly seats which it could not win in the past three elections.

Observers have been assigned to each of these constituencies, with instructions to forward their findings to the party's national president, Akhilesh Yadav, the Indian Express reported.

For the first time, the SP is orchestrating an operation of this scale. Party insiders reveal that these seats are distributed throughout the state, including significant ones like Allahabad West and Lucknow Cantonment in central UP; Babina and Charkhari in Bundelkhand; Bansi and Deoria in eastern UP; Gangoh and Noida in western UP; and Agra Cantonment and Etmadpur in the Braj region.

Insiders reported that observers have made several visits to each of these Assembly constituencies over the last two weeks. These visits included individual meetings with district presidents, office bearers of the district unit, notable leaders within the constituencies, former candidates, and influential individuals from various castes and communities.

Sources within the SP revealed that the party has designated former MLAs as observers, ensuring they are not from the constituencies they are assigned to prevent any biased reporting.

The observers' main tasks include investigating issues such as factionalism, internal disputes, and social dynamics, factors that might have led to the party's defeat in these areas.

They are also monitoring the development of block and booth communities and the reaction to the party's "PDA charcha" initiative, aimed at reaching out to Other Backward Classes, Dalits, and minorities.

“The observer asked about the social equations and the caste and class composition of voters who were earlier with SP but shifted to the BJP. They also asked if internal conflicts had dented the party in previous elections,” an SP leader in one of these 'weak constituencies' was quoted as saying.
