Violent clashes erupted in Gujarat's Junagadh last night as a mob protested against an anti-encroachment drive, ANI has reported.

Following a notice issued by the Junagadh Municipal Corporation to a mosque near Majewadi Gate, demanding the submission of necessary documents within five days, approximately 500-600 people gathered in the vicinity.

As tensions escalated, the police intervened to prevent the road from being blocked.

According to Ravi Teja Vasamsetty, the Superintendent of Police in Junagadh, the situation took a turn for the worse around 10:15 pm when unidentified individuals began pelting stones.

The assailants then targeted the police, resulting in injuries to several law enforcement personnel. In response, the police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. A total of 174 individuals have been apprehended thus far in connection with the incident.

Tragically, one civilian has been reported as prima facie deceased due to injuries sustained from the stone pelting. However, the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the completion of the postmortem examination.

The incident has prompted further investigation by the authorities to determine the underlying factors and establish a clearer understanding of the events that transpired.
