In response to Governor RN Ravi's recent remarks about the 'Dravidian Model', in which he called it a 'political slogan' and 'a desperate bid to sustain an expired ideology', Chief Minister MK Stalin has said that the Dravidian ideology is not an expired ideology and rather it has given expiration to Sanatana Dharma, Varnasiramam, Manuneedhi, and caste discrimination.
Chief Minister Stalin was speaking at an event in Kanchipuram to mark the completion of two years of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government.
"Governor Ravi is saying that the law and order situation is worse here and Tamil Nadu is not a peaceful place. I'm asking you, Mr RN Ravi, BJP ruling state Manipur is burning. Is Tamil Nadu burning like Manipur? Look at the riots that happened in Karnataka recently, the state is ruled by BJP isn't it? Did this happen in Tamil Nadu?
"Dravidian ideology is not an expired ideology rather it gave expiration to Sanatana Dharma, Varnasiramam, Manuneedhi, and caste discrimination...I am saying this with great confidence that only Dravidam has the power to defeat the Aryan ideology
"The Governor says that some people in Tamil Nadu have links with Pakistan, arms and drug dealers. We did not get any such information after DMK came to power. They might have received such information before 2021 but it has nothing to do with DMK. Then why is the governor quoting old incidents and trying to demean DMK's rule?", he said.
The DMK has been at loggerheads with the Governor on a number of issues, including his earlier comments on the Thirukkural and Sanatana Dharma.
Governor Ravi had made the remarks in an interview with the Times of India while giving reasons for not reading out certain parts of his speech like the state being a 'haven of peace and tranquillity', 'excellent management of temples' in the Assembly, earlier this year.
Of the other important remarks made in the interview, his allegation that the 'two-finger test' was conducted on the minor daughters of Podhu Dikhitars in Chidambaram as part of a probe into child marriages, has led the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to order an inquiry by the Chief Secretary.
