Tata Motors' Sanand Plant in Gujarat has achieved a significant production milestone by producing 1 million cars, as per a report by The Economic Times.

Initially established around 14 years ago for manufacturing small cars, the plant has evolved into a crucial facility for producing electric vehicles (EVs) and factory-fitted compressed natural gas (CNG) cars.

According to Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, the Sanand-1 plant contributes to 20 per cent of the company's total car production.

The Sanand-1 plant began operations in January 2010, primarily focusing on small car production. Over time, it has transitioned to producing petrol, CNG, and electric powertrains.

Despite discontinuing the production of diesel cars, the plant has increased its installed capacity from 1.35 lakh cars in 2010 to 1.9 lakh cars today.

The plant's current powertrain mix consists of 40 per cent electric and petrol each, and 20 per cent CNG.

Approximately 50 per cent of the power consumed in Sanand-1's operations is sourced from renewable sources, with plans to achieve 100 per cent green energy usage in the next three years.

The company has adopted over 68 villages around the plant, focusing on initiatives such as constructing toilets, empowering women with skills, and promoting girl child education.

Tata Motors aims to equip the plant to manufacture larger cars. The company plans to ensure that the plant is flexible enough to produce cars of any size, reducing vulnerability to changes in market demand.

Tata Motors is gearing up to unveil its international vision strategy, with a focus on more aggressively tapping into international markets, especially with enhanced safety features and electric cars.

Chandra expressed optimism about the industry, suggesting that the expected market support of 4.4 million units will provide a healthy level for sustained growth and investment in future products and capabilities.

The achievement of producing 1 million cars at Tata Motors' Sanand-1 plant is a testament to its evolution and adaptability. The plant's focus on green initiatives, CSR, and future strategies indicates a commitment to sustainable and impactful growth in the automotive industry.
