A complaint has been lodged against Bihar Leader of Opposition and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav at Patna’s Digha police station, alleging that he possesses two voter ID cards with different numbers, the Hindustan Times reported.

The complaint was filed by advocate Rajiv Ranjan. However, no FIR has been registered so far.

The issue arose after Yadav, in a press conference on Saturday (2 July), claimed his name was missing from the voter list.

He demonstrated this by linking his phone to a large screen and searching online for his Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number, RAB2916120, which reportedly returned “no records found”.

However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) responded with a notice to Yadav, stating that the EPIC he displayed was not officially issued.

The commission clarified that his valid EPIC is RAB0456228, and he is listed at serial number 416 of polling station 204 at Patna’s Bihar Animal Sciences University.

The EC said this ID was valid in both the 2015 and 2020 elections.

The controversy comes amid political tensions over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar, ahead of the state elections expected in October-November.

Opposition parties have accused the EC of arbitrarily deleting names at the behest of the ruling BJP.

The BJP has taken advantage of the disparity and claimed that Yadav is guilty of a crime for possessing two voter IDs.

The EC has asked Yadav to submit the details of the EPIC number he presented at the press conference for further investigation.
