Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, is making an increasingly public presence, urging voters to reelect his father while carefully avoiding questions about his own political ambitions.

His recent appeal at Patna airport, where he asked the people of Bihar to support the NDA government and Nitish’s continued leadership, underscores a larger political shift—one where the ruling JD(U) may be preparing for a generational transition.

Unlike many political heirs, Nishant has maintained a low profile for most of his life. An engineering graduate from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, he has largely stayed away from active politics.

However, his recent statements—first in Bakhtiyarpur last month and now in Patna—suggest a strategic effort to introduce him into the political discourse.

Addressing reporters at Patna airport upon his return from Delhi on Friday, Nishant Kumar reiterated his call for voters to support the NDA government.

“I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again: I’m appealing to the people of Bihar to elect the NDA government again and, if possible, make my father CM again so he could continue to work for the development of the state," he was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Kumar also denied Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav’s allegations that Nitish was “not in good health” saying he was “100 percent healthy”.

Nishant had previously made a similar appeal during his maiden media interaction in Bakhtiyarpur last month.

His public appearance, occurring months ahead of the Bihar elections, fuelled speculation that he might step into politics like his father.

There has been no confirmation regarding this either from Nitish Kumar or Nishant.

However, according to the JD(U) sources cited in the Indian Express report, Nishant may join the party after Holi.
