Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) A Arun has said that the suicide of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) C Vijayakumar this morning was due to depression.
ADGP Arun said that the doctor who treated Vijayakumar had informed him that he had been taking medicines for depression for the past few years and had complained of an increase in depression in the past few days.
Following this, the doctor had given him new medicines. Along with depression, Vijayakumar also suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), he said.
Minister MP Saminathan paid his respects to Vijayakumar at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
After the post-mortem, his body was taken to his native village Anaikkaraipatti in Theni district.
