Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav was issued a summons by a Delhi court on Tuesday (25 February) in relation to the land-for-jobs "scam" during his term as Union Rail Minister.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne has also called upon Prasad's elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, who is a former minister of Bihar, and his daughter, Hema Yadav, The New Indian Express reported.
The court has issued new summonses to Tejashwi Yadav, the younger son of the RJD chief and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. The accused are instructed to present themselves before the court on 11 March.
The case pertains to the appointments made to Group D in the West Central Zone of Indian Railways, headquartered in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during the time Prasad served as the Union Rail Minister from 2004 to 2009.
Officials state that these appointments were allegedly in exchange for land parcels either gifted or transferred by the appointees to the family or associates of the RJD leader.
On 18 May 2022, a case was filed against Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, his two daughters, along with unknown public officials and private individuals.
In October last year, the Delhi court granted bail to Prasad and eight other accused, including his two sons in the land-for-jobs ‘scam’.
Bihar is set to have assembly elections later this year where the main opposition party is projecting Tejashwi Yadav to replace CM Nitish Kumar.
