Citing security concerns following the 2023 violence, the Haryana government has suspended mobile internet and banned non-vegetarian food in Nuh district ahead of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra on Monday (14 July), reported The New Indian Express.
On 31 July 2023, violence erupted in Nuh when a mob targeted a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, killing two home guards and injuring at least 15 others, including policemen.
Protesters pelted stones and set vehicles on fire, triggering a political outcry. With tensions still simmering, officials have taken extensive preemptive steps to maintain peace this year.
The Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Haryana, issued the orders. Authorities suspended the internet services for 24 hours from 9 pm on 13 July until 9 pm on 14 July, though the SMS facility related to banking and mobile recharge will continue as before.
The district administration has banned the sale, display, and public handling of meat, fish, or any non-vegetarian food along the yatra route from Nalhad Mahadev Temple to Jhir Keshwar Mahadev Temple (Ferozepur Jhirka) and Singar Temple. This restriction applies only on 14 July.
“In the interest of student safety and convenience, all government and private schools in the Nuh district will remain closed on 14 July,” said Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena.
Officials have deployed 24 Duty Magistrates, rerouted traffic from Delhi, Gurugram, and Alwar, and imposed bans on drones, balloons, kites, and open sale of fuel.
Security includes 22 units of police and paramilitary forces, night-vision drones, bomb squads, and dog squads. Authorities denied permission to cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi, who was also accused in the 2023 Nuh violence, and suspended his social media accounts.
Meena added that the administration has conducted coordination meetings to ensure smooth conduct and law and order during the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra.
